If there’s one thing Medicine Hat knows how to do, it’s make the most of summer. And this August, downtown Medicine Hat is turning up the heat with the return of Medicine Hat Ribfest.

From August 14 to 16, 2026, Ribfest is bringing three days of award-winning BBQ, live music, food trucks, family activities and plenty of community spirit right into the heart of the city.

Whether you’re coming for the ribs, meeting friends downtown, or looking for something fun to do with the family, this is one summer weekend worth putting on the calendar.

Ribfest Is Taking Over Downtown

One of the biggest changes for 2026 is the location.

This year, Medicine Hat Ribfest is moving into downtown Medicine Hat, with activities spread throughout

1st Street
Finley Bridge
Veterans Park
Town Square

That means you can enjoy the festival atmosphere while taking in everything the downtown core has to offer.

It’s a great excuse to make a full day of it. Grab some food, listen to live music, wander through the vendor market and enjoy the summer atmosphere with friends and family.

Come Hungry

Of course, the ribs are the main attraction.

Ribfest 2026 will feature four national award-winning rib vendors from across Canada and the U.S., along with a variety of local food trucks serving up plenty of options beyond BBQ.

Expect the kind of food that makes you want to forget about eating neatly for the weekend. Slow-cooked ribs, smoky BBQ, pulled pork and other festival favourites are all part of the experience.

And if you’re heading downtown with a group, everyone can find something they’re in the mood for.

More Than Just Ribs

There’s plenty happening between meals, too.

The Ribfest stage will feature live bands throughout the weekend, while the festival’s family area will include activities such as face painting, bouncy castles, foam zones and games.

There will also be a beer garden for adults and a vendor market showcasing local products and services.

The best part? Admission is free, so you can drop by, enjoy the atmosphere and make your own plan for the day.

Location: Downtown Medicine Hat, including 1st Street, Finley Bridge, Veterans Park and Town Square.

Since Ribfest is spread throughout the downtown area, it’s also a nice opportunity to explore some of the shops, restaurants and other local spots nearby while you’re there.

Make a Day of It

One of the things we love about summer in Medicine Hat is that you don’t always need a complicated plan.

Meet up with friends downtown. Bring the kids. Grab lunch from one of the food vendors. Listen to some live music. Pick up something from a local vendor. Then wander around and see where the afternoon takes you.

And if you’re anything like us, you’ll probably leave Ribfest already planning what you’re going to try the next day.
